Three little steps to rolling your eyes
- Think of a situation where you raised an equality issue and were met with an eyeroll, not listened to, not taken seriously, were ignored, ...
- Be irritated yourself and roll your eyes back at them.
- Take a selfie and/or type a statement and share it.

"I encounter rolling eyes when I tell people that I studied Gender Studies: "Do you learn how to gender there?!" For many, the word "gender" on its own is already a red flag and they don't take the things I learned seriously.

"I'm surprised again and again how irritated people react when you talk about equality. In the end the goal is to make the world a bit more just - and I have yet to meet somebody who doesn't think that a just world is better than an unjust world. I wish that equality was understood in the way it is meant: not an annoying afterthought but an essential mandate for us all. That is what I'm working for at the University of Vienna." |
